THROUGH NEEDED SUPPORT SYSTEMS
THROUGH NEEDED SUPPORT SYSTEMS
Social support systems have been proven to help reduce stress, increase physical health, and mitigate psychological problems, such as depression and anxiety. Ariana can help you and your family determine the best resources, which may include senior centers, assisted-living facilities, meal delivery, religious affiliations, or adult daycare centers.
Leisure social activities, which can help increase self-awareness, might be appropriate as well. A few examples are reminiscence groups, journal writing, readings of favorite books, group exercise, and even singing groups.
Validation helps clients reduce stress, enhance dignity, and increase happiness, especially for those who are disoriented. The regular visits, the communication, concern, and caring that Ariana provides helps clients to enhance their lives through the enrichment of interactivity.
Taking an active role in the planning and development of their own care can add a sense of fulfillment to those in their later years as well.
THROUGH FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
The role of family members in the final care of their elder can be stressful on everyone. There is a lot to consider, for example, decisions on living arrangements (nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, in-home care); logistics involved in keeping medical appointments; visitations; and much more.
Ariana will meet with the family to streamline a schedule for everyone, so that quality involvement in the life of their older loved one can be a source of fulfillment. The communication she provides can be of utmost importance when the busy lives of the family members reduce the time that can be spent dealing with the needs of the senior member.
THROUGH A COMFORTABLE PROCESS
From the initial consultation, to sitting in the waiting room during a medical appointment, even to administering the needs of pets, Ariana is gifted in providing a calm and comfortable presence in the management of care. All the while, she operates under the values of respect, compassion, transparency, and privacy. Key points that she considers:
"I do this work because I see a great need for it. It improves the quality of people's lives, which I find fulfilling. And I have skill and knowledge that is useful in supporting late-life transitions." - Ariana
"When I was a child, my mother brought me along for home-health and hospice nursing visits, teaching me about medication uses, end of life care, and disease progressions."
After raising two daughters of her own, Ariana went back to school and studied social and human services and chemical dependency counseling. Planning to continue in clinical psychology, she became enamored with the diversity of ways to serve in social work careers.
"While using care giving as a financial stop-gap, I fell in love with the enigma of the final life stage, discovering a need for guidance and support of elders and their families during this time."
Looking for a profession that met her newly-sparked enthusiasm, Ariana set out to make herself proficient in geriatric care management, with the intent of starting her own business.
"I devoured text books on aging and care management and attended continuing-education seminars. I also mentored two families over a period of three years, caring for their elders through their final moments."
Over the last eight years, Ariana has supported ten different families and individuals by identifying their strengths and deficits, navigating crisis situations, filling care gaps, and validating their experiences.
"Every beautiful, aging person that I've met has inspired in me an even deeper passion for helping people make the most of their later years."
Ariana is a specialist in aging transitions, operating under the premise that every individual deserves respect, compassion, transparency, and privacy.
